There were three optional all-day excursions today: two to interior Austria and one into the Czech Republic. Since the last two days had been so busy, we decided to stay on the ship and continue cruising down the Danube River to Passau. It was a wonderful day! There were only 20 of us on the ship - everyone else was on an excursion. However, it was too cold to sit outside on the Sky Deck. Most of us enjoyed the scenery from the lounge and stepped outside just long enough to make a picture.
By the way, our Cruise Director Marc told us on the first day of our cruise that a large group had pulled out at the last minute. So instead of 168 passengers on our cruise, we only have 89! Good for us; not so good for Avalon.
It's not uncommon to be stopped by the police, and we were. They boarded the ship and inspected all of our documents. Because of the inspection and water levels rising, our time in Passau was limited to a very brief 40-minute walk. The captain wanted to leave Passau a little early so he could pass under the lower bridges before the water levels rose too high. So we continued cruising and enjoying the beautiful Danube River!
(I haven't learned how to post vertical pictures yet. That's why some of the tops are cut off! LOL)
