It'a hard to believe that we're down to the last two days of our river cruise! What a wonderful time we've had seeing so much history and beautiful sights, and meeting so many delightful people! That's what always makes our trips so special!
This morning we visited the city of Cologne by going on a walking tour ending at the famous Cologne Cathedral. We're notorious for attracting heat waves, and they're having one here now. Expected temp in Cologne today is 95 degrees!
The city of Cologne officially began in 50 BC. By the end of WWII in 1945, 90% of the Old City was destroyed. However, much of it has been restored or rebuilt. Cologne is the capital of the Rhineland and is known for its twin-steepled Gothic Cathedral.
The pictures below are of the Old City main street across from the Rhine River, the original Cologne Factory with red awnings for which the city was named, and the awe-inspiring Cologne Cathedral.
We spent the afternoon and evening cruising up the Rhine River on our way to the Netherlands. Believe it or not, it was actually too hot to sit outside even in the shade, so most everyone enjoyed the view from the air conditioned lounge!
